We gold dredge in New Zealand on 2 claims in otago.. the dredges we use are 4" keene with a upgraded box, custom 6" for fast flowing rivers, old school 8" dredge and now a new 8" with a new design box.. We dredge all year round and only really stop when the weather wont let us.. wetsuits we use are Moray revolution suits from 5mm to a 9mm, and use the matching socks and gloves.. Water temps are -1.5 up to 14deg and don't normally run hot water into the suits.. Hot water is used for the clean up at the end of each day...

First cold week, when the temp got below 0deg... But was still a busy week of low water dredging, motor over heating, holes in the hull and all the other drama that goes with dredging.

We have moved one of the dredges down the river to a large beach, on the inside of a corner.. Have gone down 2.5m and still no bed rock, but there is gold in the gravel... No clean up in the video, that will be on next weeks video..

Happy days, the big girls are finally back in the water... Had our first week back this year.. still adjusting the new dredge, but should be sorted next week. SORRY the picture isn't as clear as it should be, the new dive case has a leak, so we had to use the old one...

It was our last day up on the claim with the 4". Found a good area to put a larger dredge on next year.. New engine on the wee dredge worked well, and was catching 150 - 200 size gold.. but will still change it.... will make a video of the 4" getting an up grade... And I'm happy to say the big girls will be back next week...

We made up the hill again, doing some more testing, one hole was 2.5m down and working about 4ft of gravel, and the other side was much deeper of gravel, to deep for the 4".....

Sorry guys not a long video this week as we had camera problems.. Water was getting into the camera.. But what you see this week is us testing a new area with the 4" dredge.. We hit a hard layer we couldn't get through with the 4".. to bed rock looks to be 2m down, so will have to wait for a bigger dredge for that...

WARNING... There is no dredging in this video.... There will be a video of some dredging next week... As for our 6" dredge, she is underwater some where on the lower part of our claim but wont be able to recovery her until the river drops... And a big thanks to everyone that has helped out so far.. I will make a video of the recovery, if there is anything left.. Thanks

Got a few days in before the rain came down. We were able to move the dredge down the river to try out a new spot, and try out a few new things..

Back up on the claim for some more dredging, We had snow, strong winds and the sun finally came out in the end.. We had to pull out early as the river came up and got all dirty for the next few days.. Happy long weekend..

We built a 4 inch dredge highbanker. At the end of the season I realized it's a waste of time. I'm now planning on building an 8 inch. Will be processing with my buddy's 6 inch over this and next season. Hopefully, I will have the 8 inch done by next season.

Would need allot of panels.. the solar on my dredge was just to keep the battery full, as I used it for a small water pumps and a ele winch for pulling rocks..

Are you guys still dredging and making videos? I really like the modifications and constant improvement you guys do to your sluice boxes, so I’m curious on what the latest iteration is. I’m up in Alaska and I’m building a home built 6 inch dredge, currently leaning towards a double screen design I saw Pro-Mack did on an 8 inch. Though, I might simplify it down to a single screen like Keene does on their Super Max. Anyways, keep up the good work, and hope to see more videos in the future.
Hey, we still have a claim, just been away for a while, floods, viruses, etc has kepts us away.. single screen is the way to go, found the double screen blocks to easily.

What motor have you got on your dredge? I’m going to graft a Mercedes 190d car motor onto mine...
They where 1L and 2L turbo diesels.
@@12madcow ok, mine is 2L but non-turbo and no computer stuff, should work well. Just a ballpark figure if you have it, how much fuel is the 2L using?
@@12madcow can you use a dredge on any river in NZ or only if you apply for a mining lease ? I had family there in 1890's lol
Showing the cleanup would have made it a great video. Kinda disappointed.
I know old video but man that 8” is a beast I own & 6” & it’s not bad that thing is a river vacuum for sure. Wish I could of seen clean up & results but still great video

They are a good mask, only problem is the straps aren't that strong, and will break after a couple of seasons, and next time I would be putting a clear film over it to protect from scratching..
